Juläine vs Sculptra

Both are poly-L-lactic acid. They differ in particle size, course, aftercare and price.

Juläine London compares Juläine and Sculptra, the two poly-L-lactic acid collagen stimulators sold in London, so you can weigh them before an assessment with a doctor at UNTIL Marylebone.

The short answer

Juläine vs Sculptra: the short answer

Both are poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) that builds collagen slowly, and no clinical trial has compared them head to head. Juläine has smaller, more uniform particles, a shorter course and a maker's lifetime of 12 to 18 months. Sculptra has been sold in Europe since 1999, is approved for more areas of the face and body, and its maker claims up to two years. In London a Juläine session costs roughly two to three times a Sculptra vial.

How long Sculptra and Juläine last

Galderma says the effect of Sculptra can last up to two years, and its UK instructions describe improvement of two years or more, with the product itself gone within about 18 months. Nordberg Medical gives Juläine a lifetime of 12 to 18 months and suggests a review at 12 months. Some London clinics quote two years for Juläine too; that is longer than its maker states, so plan around the maker's figure. In both cases the PLLA disappears and what remains is your own collagen.

Sculptra massage and Juläine aftercare

Massage spreads PLLA evenly and is part of the aftercare for both. Juläine's instructions ask the practitioner to massage the area for at least two minutes after each set of injections, and some London clinics add massage at home for a few days. Sculptra's UK instructions say you can gently massage the area for a couple of minutes over the following days; the stricter five minutes, five times a day for five days comes from its US label. Ask the clinic which routine applies to the product you are having.

Sculptra and Juläine side effects

Both cause redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising for a few days, and both can occasionally cause small lumps under the skin that appear weeks or months later. In Sculptra's US pivotal study, 17.2% of people had nodules or papules against 12.8% in the comparison group. Juläine's maker lists delayed nodules among its possible effects but publishes no rate; in a 36-person study it funded, mild inflammation was reported in 61.1% of people a week after the first session.

What the particle design changes

Juläine's maker says its smoother, more uniform microspheres are designed to cause a low inflammatory response. A 2025 laboratory study, written by a consultant to the maker, found Juläine's particles smaller and more even and Sculptra's larger and more likely to clump. It tested the products in the lab, not in patients, so it cannot say whether lumps are less common. Ask any doctor how they manage a nodule before you choose.

Sculptra and Juläine prices in London

Practices at UNTIL clubs publish Sculptra at £400 to £560 a vial, and one lists it from £550 a session; a Harley Street clinic quotes £1,350 to £4,200 for the face, depending on vials. Juläine costs £950 to £1,495 a session at the London clinics that publish a price, usually one vial a session, and £2,350 to £4,955 for a course of three. Sculptra courses tend to have more sessions, so compare the total for the course you are quoted. Juläine prices in London lists every figure.

Choosing between Juläine and Sculptra

Either can suit gradual firming of the lower face, nasolabial folds or hollow cheeks, so ask the doctor how often they use the product they recommend. Sculptra has the longer record and approved uses on the body as well as the face. Juläine has a shorter course, a lower maker-stated lifetime and a higher price per session, and its particle design is its maker's main argument.

Juläine as a Sculptra alternative

If you have had Sculptra before and want to try Juläine, tell the doctor when and where, since both leave collagen behind and the assessment should judge what is already there. If neither suits you, because you want a change on the day or the problem is loose skin, the assessment is where to hear that. Juläine injections in London covers the treatment itself.

Juläine vs Sculptra:
questions people ask

Is Juläine better than Sculptra?

Nobody can say yet. No clinical trial has compared them directly; the only head-to-head work is a laboratory study of the particles, by a consultant to Juläine’s maker. Both are poly-L-lactic acid and work the same way. Juläine London suggests choosing a doctor experienced with the product you have.

Which lasts longer, Juläine or Sculptra?

By the makers’ own figures, Sculptra: Galderma says up to two years, while Nordberg Medical gives Juläine a lifetime of 12 to 18 months. Your age, skin and the dose all affect it. Juläine London quotes each maker’s figure rather than the longer claims some clinics make.

Why does Juläine cost more than Sculptra?

London clinics price Juläine at £950 to £1,495 a session, against £400 to £560 a Sculptra vial at practices in UNTIL clubs. A Juläine session usually uses one vial and its course is shorter, so compare totals. Juläine London lists only prices that clinics publish themselves, dated 13 October 2026.

Do Juläine and Sculptra both need massage?

Yes, in different ways. Juläine’s instructions call for at least two minutes of massage by the practitioner after each set. Sculptra’s UK instructions suggest gentle massage at home for a couple of minutes over the next days. Juläine London suggests asking the clinic which routine to follow.

Are Juläine and Sculptra made by the same company?

No. Both are made in Sweden, but by different companies: Juläine by Nordberg Medical AB in Huddinge and Sculptra by Q-Med AB, a Galderma company, in Uppsala. Juläine London is independent of both makers and connects you with doctors at UNTIL Marylebone who give Juläine.
